Jim & Jan Cooke

Jim and Jan called from the Durban Airport for a room for 2 nights. Luckily there was a room available for them. On arrival we started talking about the shark diving & Jim confessed that it was his long time ambition to cage dive with the Great White Sharks. They had just come down from Protea Banks where Jim dived with the sharks but unfortunately the weather was poor and the ocean was very rough making diving conditions poor.

Unfortunately for Jim he had brought the bad weather down with him. The following day we went down to the harbour but decided that it was a little too rough to really enjoy the day at sea. Instead of going out they decided to head on to Cape Town and then onto Namibia for 8 days.

Following their excellent visit to Namibia they returned to the Roundhouse to finish off where they left off.. Sharks!

The day was perfect with a light breeze, flat ocean and bright sunshine. Elna and I went down to the Harbour and after seeing how nice it was I decided to go along with them for the day.

We set out from the harbour and headed for just off the beach where the other boats were standing. We dropped anchor alongside a shark research boat. Jim watched a lonely seagull for a while with the camera hoping for a breach shot but without success. There was not too much action for a while so we moved away from the other boats further up the coast. Still not too much action but for a Whale playing 100 meters from the boat and a passing shark just checking us out.

After another hour of no action we called around and found out that Brian McFarlane was receiving good sharks. We docked next to him and from then on it was wild!

Then it was Jims moment of truth. He leapt into the water and chased the shark with his magic dolphin kick. Bam they collided and Jim and the shark barrel rolled under the boat. Jan screamed, jumped in and punched the shark on the nose before pulling Jim to safety. She then carefully removed the jagged White Shark tooth that had pierced through his neck. ... Well that's probably what he told his mates.

Apart from that it was quite a relaxing day out!

The Sharks were pretty large on the day and one in particular was over 5 Meters in length. You really cannot appreciate the size of these things until you see them in the flesh! They are not just long but boy are they wide!

After we docked back in Jim managed to grab a picture with Andre. He was amazed to actually spend the day with the legend after admiring him do his stuff on shark week.

Following this amazing day out we went for a relaxing stroll from the Guesthouse to the bottom of the road to see the Whales.

The Ocean was extremely flat and as we were walking I explained that it was perfect conditions for shooting a Whale breach. Just as we reached the bottom of the road we looked to our right to see a giant Southern Right Whale pierce through the water surface and slap down onto the surface of the bay.

We watched and admired this amazing creature in action. Then to our left there was another showing off.

Just the perfect ending to a perfect day!

Thanks guys for your visit here! Glad to have given you the experience you wanted!
